Operation Splat Update, 10/02/13

Well, we're back.

Another year begins, and service learning takes off again. And we're off to a bit of a rocky start.

After a lot of running around, we've discovered that one of our major interviews has been deleted from the computer system, and has been shredded into 10 second clips on multiple hards drives. It's a hard loss, and we're going to have to film on our own time, but we'll recover. Our group is a resilient bunch, and we'll do everything we can to get back up to speed.

When we weren't running around campus searching for mysterious hard drives, we took some time to work on our budgeting issue for the paintball event. We called our prospective paintball park host, and they offered us a decent deal for price packages for our event.  We're still working on a fair deal, but we're off to a great start.

No matter how much we get done, there always seems to be more. We're aware that we've taken on a challenge. We made a basic game plan with everything that needs to get done, and the order. Right now the list is a bunch of big picture tasks, and as we get into accomplishing those goals we can get started on the details like catering.

One small thing we did do today, however, was find a way of making a bit of money to help with the event. We're going to sell red, white, and blue gummy soldiers at B Candy. B Candy is generously donating packages of candy, and they should be for sale soon at B Candy or at Sage Hill football games, so keep your eyes open!

Overall, today has been challenging and difficult, but we've done a lot to manage the main event in our project. There's a long way to go, but we're capable of accomplishing our goals. We care about the health of veterans, and want to make sure they're appreciated. We have a passion to help people, and with that passion, and some hard work, we'll get it done.

Here's the link to B Candy's website if you want to check it out!

If you were wondering, then yes, they are incredibly tasty.

  1. Group, great job today with your brainstorming. Check out excel Profit/Loss templates for your budgeting. It will give you a clear picture of all income and expenses allowing you to really quantify the events chance for success. Did you decide on a time frame for the event? We discussed a 3-4 hour window. - Coach Tolver
